Pertamina, Adaro sign strategic alliance agreement

State-owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina (Persero) and publicly listed mining company PT Adaro Energy Tbk on Wednesday signed a strategic alliance agreement to optimize fuel infrastructure to boost energy security.

Pertamina president director Dwi Soetjipto and Adaro Energy president director Garibaldi Thohir signed the agreement at the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry in Jakarta.

State Enterprises Minister Rini Soemarno and Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Sudirman Said witnessed the signing. The ministry’s director general for oil and gas, I Nyoman Wiratmadja, was also present.

“The government really appreciates what Pertamina has done to increase the operational reserves of the company, which today is still the government’s pillar for ensuring national energy resilience, especially fuel,” said Sudirman as quoted by Antara in Jakarta on Wednesday.

The minister said national energy reserves had relied on reserves managed by Pertamina for some 22 days.

“Along with our efforts to boost national fuel security, the reserves must be able to be increased to 30 days, and these efforts will need adequate infrastructure support,” said Sudirman.

He added that the Pertamina-Adaro Energy agreement would hopefully spur more cooperation between state-owned enterprises and private companies.

Sudirman further said that the government had identified several fuel storage infrastructure facilities Pertamina could use, such as state electricity company PLN’s storage tanks, which have sat unused after the company's shift from fuel to coal and gas.

Japanese Militarism : Japan, Between Love And Resentment

A book entitled Japanese Militarism and Its War Crimes in Asia Pacific Region (Hendrajit, ed) was recently sent to me, by the publisher, The Global Future Institute. No doubt, this book made me re-think and recollect my trip to Japan in 1996. At that time, I was warmly received by Japanese families who became my host, invited to travel to various places, and bought souvenirs. The psycological effect of my short visit is that it is hard to imagine that the Japanese people were cruel ones, perpetrators of the massacre of our ancestors, raping Indonesian girls, making them as prostitutes and enslaving our grandfathers to work on various projects.
