Jokowi Heads to Sochi for Asean-Russia Summit, Meeting With Putin

President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo departed for Russia after completing his state visit to South Korea on Wednesday (18/05).


Jokowi is scheduled to meet President Vladimir Putin at his official residence in Sochi, Southern Russia, to discuss a range of topics, including partnerships and trade. The two leaders will also attend the Association of Southeast Asian Nations-Russia Summit 2016 in the city.

Both presidents will witness the signing of several agreements on defense, archive management, culture and fisheries before making a joint statement.

They are also expected to participate in a working dinner between the Indonesian and Russian delegations, before attending the May 17-20 Asean-Russia Summit in the resort city.

Jokowi and his entourage will first make a stop at Novosibirsk Tolmachevo Airport before heading to Sochi International Airport.

The president is accompanied by several ministers, including Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, Coordinating Economics Minister Darmin Nasution and Trade Minister Thomas Lembong.

Japanese Militarism : Japan, Between Love And Resentment

A book entitled Japanese Militarism and Its War Crimes in Asia Pacific Region (Hendrajit, ed) was recently sent to me, by the publisher, The Global Future Institute. No doubt, this book made me re-think and recollect my trip to Japan in 1996. At that time, I was warmly received by Japanese families who became my host, invited to travel to various places, and bought souvenirs. The psycological effect of my short visit is that it is hard to imagine that the Japanese people were cruel ones, perpetrators of the massacre of our ancestors, raping Indonesian girls, making them as prostitutes and enslaving our grandfathers to work on various projects.
