Reportedly that the two Chinese companies engaged in the field of energy, namely China Nuclear Power Operation Techology Corporation Ltd (CNPO) and the General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGN), have given unrealiable information to the Indonesian government regarding the adverse impact on the environment through the use of Russia-made nuclear technologies.
If this information is correct, then there is no doubt the Chinese government has played the issue of environment on the pretext of supporting any movement concerned about the environmental protection. Apparently, the Chinese government has imitated the style played by the United States and its western allies in playing the issues of democracy, human rights and the environment, as a means to put pressure on both the foreign policies and the economy of the developing countries by targeting their geopolitical areas.
That was clearly visible through the maneuver performed by CNPO and CGN in playing the environmental issues to stem a possible strategic cooperation between Indonesia and Russia. The strategic objective of the maneuver is clear. That through such maneuver, China has tried to delay the Indonesian nuclear program, and will in turn use the momentum to strengthen its strategic position in the domestic market in China's own nuclear technology sector, related to its bargaining position against the Indonesian government.
Yet if we examine carefully the Chinese interests and actions in playing its economic interests in Indonesia, it could have high enough destructive impacts. Please take a look at how the impact of the Chinese actions when imposing a 35 thousand mega watt power program, including in influencing the Indonesia's maritime infrastructure development program in the long term.
However, despite the bad reputation as a partner in implementing the cooperation projects of nuclear technology, Beijing has likely still tried to create the favorable position and conditions in its domestic market in nuclear technology, while attempting to expand it in Indonesia.
For the government of Indonesia and the Commission VII of the House engaged in the field of energy field, they must be aware and take into account the Chinese unfair maneuver and its leading companies; CNPO and CGN, so that Indonesia would not be trapped into the Beijing's game.
Because based on several studies related to the Chinese nuclear technology development abroad, there had been no nuclear technology projects that could be a brilliant record of the Chinese impeccable reputation in this sector. Even in the Chinese domestic itself, the development of its atomic energy has practically been done by using technologies made by Russia.
At this point, it seems clear that Indonesia is in danger if it could easily be trapped into the China's influence, even potentially 'held hostage' by China. Especially in the China's geopolitical vision, the mastery of some islands of Indonesia is an integral part of its economic aid schemes against Indonesia.
The Chinese desire to master Bitung in North Sulawesi through a scheme of Indonesian maritime infrastructure development, and its assistance for the construction of the Sunda Strait Bridge, are examples of the China's real intentions to conquer the Indonesian geopolitical areas through economic aid.
The Chinese maneuver to extend nuclear technology following its intention to control several islands in Indonesia, will precisely in its development threaten possible environmental disaster in the archipelago, not only on a national scale, but also on a regional one in Southeast Asia.
