Indonesia and the “Political Symbol” Building in South China Sea

ASEAN integration does not mean will survive without a test. Unlike the European Union, ASEAN integration exam is coming from outside. South China Sea issue is the first test for ASEAN in strengthening its integration agenda and the first big test for Indonesia as “ASEAN (informal) leader”. ASEAN by Indonesia, should be a mediator who truly sovereign in resolving the conflict in the South China Sea. Indonesia has a responsibility to encourage ASEAN to maintain security and stability of this region because of the conflict includes numbers of ASEAN countries against China, which incidentally is not the member of ASEAN. There is no reason for Indonesia to not "intervene" in the South China Sea conflict especially in term of our sovereign rights in Natuna Island. Therefore, ASEAN Unity and ASEAN Centrality are very important in this case for Indonesia.

Without awareness of geopolitics, Indonesia will be trapped into US / China's slavery

The government must have the geopolitical awareness in building a strategic alliance with China or the United States and its allies that are currently fighting for influence in the Asia Pacific region. Without awareness of the geopolitical, Indonesia could get caught in the trap of slavery or non-military colonialism scheme recently developed by the superpowers.

Indonesia will not be attacked militarily

My assumption is that Indonesia is unlikely to be attacked militarily as the invasion of Iraq, Syria, Libya, etc. by any states and defense pacts with any reason, why?

We Either Unite or We Die

The largest grouping of third world countries in the United Nations is the Group of 77 (G77), formed in 1964 and now numbering 133 countries. In mid-April 2000, these nations, representing the majority of the world's people, met in Havana, Cuba, and issued a proclamation harshly critical of the policies of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. The following speech by Cuban President Fidel Castro was met with thunderous applause at the G77 Summit, but the U.S. press failed to cover Castro's speech or the other criticism coming from the G77.

Japanese Militarism : Japan, Between Love And Resentment

A book entitled Japanese Militarism and Its War Crimes in Asia Pacific Region (Hendrajit, ed) was recently sent to me, by the publisher, The Global Future Institute. No doubt, this book made me re-think and recollect my trip to Japan in 1996. At that time, I was warmly received by Japanese families who became my host, invited to travel to various places, and bought souvenirs. The psycological effect of my short visit is that it is hard to imagine that the Japanese people were cruel ones, perpetrators of the massacre of our ancestors, raping Indonesian girls, making them as prostitutes and enslaving our grandfathers to work on various projects.
