Hendrajit: PT Freeport managed to make govt and parliament pitted against each other

Geopolitical analyst and Executive Director of the Jakarta-based Global Future Institute (GFI) Hendrajit said that PT Freeport Indonesia succeeded to make the government and parliament pitted against each other on the case of PT Freeport's contract extension. Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Sudirman Said officially reported House Speaker Setya Novanto to the Court of Honor Council (MKD) of the House of Representatives for allegedly using the name of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and Vice President Jusuf Kalla (JK) to extend the Freeport's contract. On account of the Sudirman's complaint the relationship between the government and the House has increasingly escalated.

The scheme of neoliberalism behind fuel price hike

The scheme of neoliberalism in 2015 is targeting Indonesia to be free of subsidized fuel. Since 2012, the government has issued permits of principle for opening foreign gas stations (SPBU). Approximately 40 permits were already issued by assuming they could manage around 20,000 SPBUs. So that from 2012 to 2015, at least there will have been some 800,000 foreign SPBUs. They are managed by Shell, BP, Chevron, Exxon, and so on. So, if there is such a 'persistence' to raise subsidized fuel prices by 40% or revoking it at all, at least the scheme could be understood.

Pertamina lifts subsidized fuel oil sale restriction

Japanese Militarism : Japan, Between Love And Resentment

A book entitled Japanese Militarism and Its War Crimes in Asia Pacific Region (Hendrajit, ed) was recently sent to me, by the publisher, The Global Future Institute. No doubt, this book made me re-think and recollect my trip to Japan in 1996. At that time, I was warmly received by Japanese families who became my host, invited to travel to various places, and bought souvenirs. The psycological effect of my short visit is that it is hard to imagine that the Japanese people were cruel ones, perpetrators of the massacre of our ancestors, raping Indonesian girls, making them as prostitutes and enslaving our grandfathers to work on various projects.
